Giving birth is intense. And can be intensely rewarding.

I view childbirth as a powerful, profound, sacred and holy experience—one that can be worshipful and filled with joy, despite its intensity. It is in the struggle of childbirth that Mom is her most vulnerable and raw self, and I believe it’s incredibly important that Mom and her preferences be at the center of her care.

I love helping couples understand the miracle of birth and how a woman’s body is designed to labor naturally on its own. It’s also important that I help you understand the efficiencies of the hospital system, so you can navigate the array of decisions you’ll face and know what questions to ask.

I want nothing more for my couples than to be active participants in their labor and birth experience; to be the deciders when at a crossroads of decision-making; to maintain trust in the process yet flexibility with the experience; and to walk away from the birth of their child having had a positive and empowering emotional experience. That said, Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby—Baby Out, Everything Okay—is the highest priority, and I encourage my clients to maintain this perspective.

My goal is to help equip and empower you to have nothing less than a prepared and confident birth experience.

Your Guide: Rebecca

I believe in exercising a growth mentality when facing things that are daunting. Pregnancy is an exciting but also nerve-racking time. As is postpartum—it can be crazy intense! I know this personally and am here to walk with you as you navigate hopes and fears around growing your family.

As an ICEA Certified Childbirth Educator (ICCE) and ICEA Certified Birth Doula (ICBD), I’ve had extensive training—primarily at the Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations at Bastyr University in Seattle, WA—in pregnancy, childbirth and newborn care. To me, there is nothing else more humbling, raw, powerful or glorious than childbirth. The exhausted mothers, every time, are my heroes.

Moms and Dads, I consider it an honor and joy to work with you and look forward to getting to know you. Together, let’s embrace the journey of childbirth and beyond.

98% of couples had a positive emotional birth experience.

There are no guarantees in childbirth. Yet the vast majority of couples who have worked with me have reported having a positive emotional birth experience. Some gave birth naturally, some used an epidural, some experienced cesarean birth and some had successful vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) deliveries, some were induced. All were prepared, and almost everyone reported having had a positive experience.

In this course you’ll gain the following:

  1. Learn the right questions to ask your health care providers.
  2. Gain community in a group of other pregnant couples. You’ll see you’re not alone!
  3. Get personal access to Rebecca so you can ask all your questions.

Much of what I learned, I had no idea I needed to know! It was great to learn as much as I did so I can be a better partner. Honestly, our experience was so valuable, we feel like we owe Rebecca more money than what we paid.

What’s the difference between this course and the course my hospital is offering?

There are many wonderful childbirth courses out there to consider, and often it’s a matter of figuring out the right fit for your family. Classes offered at your hospital or clinic are generally more like a “crash course” than the journey I like to take couples on in my course. Sometimes, but not always, hospital-based classes include information about the policies and procedures offered at that birthplace but not necessarily all the options that the laboring mother has. On average, they attract 12+ couples, whereas my classes are much more intimate, either one-on-one or limited to 4 couples at a time.

As an ICEA Certified Childbirth Educator (ICCE), I include a wide variety of evidence-based information and resources in my instruction. If given the opportunity, I also love to incorporate my Christian faith into my instruction and to pray for and with my clients. After all, it doesn’t take much in pregnancy and childbirth to admit that we are not in control. I love pointing people to Christ, who can be trusted for care over His creation. While my appreciation of the process of pregnancy and childbirth is largely informed by my personal faith, I am also happy to work with couples of varying faith backgrounds if we mutually determine we’re a good fit.
